If you choose to Sync Data, myPurseCache can sync data between devices using iCloud or Dropbox. This option is only available for Premium Members.
**Even if you choose to sync your data between devices, you may still want to backup your data. For more information, please visit the Instructions for Backing Up Data page.
Turn on Sync Data
After you have added items to the myPurseCache app on one of your devices:
- Go to the “Options” section and turn on “Sync Data”
- Wait a few moments and allow the data to sync
- Then go to your second device (before you add any items) and follow the same process for turning on “Sync Data”.
**I recommend only adding items to one device first. If you enter items on both devices, you may end up with duplicate entries, or it may overwrite all the items on the second device. This is only a concern for the first time you sync data between devices.
Turn Off Sync Data & Delete Files
To turn off Sync Data, go to the “Options” section of the myPurseCache app and tap the “Off” button under “Sync Data”. If you want to delete the files, you will need to do this manually.
iCloud: open the Settings app, then tap on your Apple ID, select iCloud, then Manage Storage. On the iCloud Storage screen, scroll down and tap the row that says myPurseCache, then select Delete Data.
Dropbox App: once you open the Dropbox App, tap “Files” (bottom right), then select “Apps” (you should see the myPurseCache file). Tap the 3 small dots (top right). Tap the checkbox next to myPurseCache, then tap “Delete” (bottom left).
Dropbox Website: sign in to your Dropbox account, select “Files” (from the left side), then select “Apps” (you should see the myPurseCache file). Tap the empty space to the right of the file’s name to select it (a menu will appear near the top of the page) from the menu, select “Delete”
FAQ
What if I already have items entered on both of my devices?
If you have items entered on both devices, when you sync, you will most likely have a number of duplicates (see below for how myPurseCache deals with duplicates).
If you have the same items listed on each device, I would recommend deleting all the items from one of the devices. If you decide to delete items from one of your device, you can do this manually, which may take quite a bit of time if you have a lot of items. Or you can delete the app from your device, and then reinstall it. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, then after you sync, it’s possible that you will have two of each item.
Please note, that you will only need to delete the duplicates on one of your devices, since you are now syncing data, the second device will automatically update with your changes.
I selected Sync Data on both of my devices, but the data hasn’t synced yet?
It will take some time for the initial sync. This process is not instantaneous, so please be patient. If you have waited a sufficient amount of time and your data has still not synced:
- Go to the Options section and check to make sure that iCloud or Dropbox is switched ON
- If you selected iCloud, make sure you selected iCloud on both devices (or Dropbox is selected on both devices)
- Check the amount of storage you have remaining in your iCloud or Dropbox account. It’s possible you don’t have enough data to sync data
- Make sure you are connected to wifi
If all of that is OK, then leave the app open on both devices for a few minutes so that they have time to sync. If you are still having issues, please contact me through the app by going to the “Support” section and selecting “Email Developer”, please explain what you have done so far so that I can help.
After my data synced, why do I have a number of duplicates?
I decided to leave dealing with duplicate entries up to you because it’s possible that you may have more than one item with the same name. For example, when you add a handbag you may have another handbag with a similar name.
When the app syncs data between the devices, I didn’t want to create an alert for each similar item as it can get confusing, especially if you have a number of handbags with the same name. Which is why I decided that I would leave that process up to you. If you discover a duplicate entry, you can just delete it. If you have any issues with it, please let me know so that I can make changes if necessary.
